Quotes):"sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume"Your USB drive has to be called "MyVolume" for this to work. See this Apple Support Article for more information: am trying boot buddy right now. Last edited: Dec 30, 2017 #5 I found some suggestions that the OS might need updating before it would let me download the non-stub version. Sure enough, there were some updates waiting, and after I had installed them, suddenly I could download the full OS rather than just the stub. Frustrating that it didn't work before for such a seemingly odd reason. To dldjr31, I used Disk Creator to make an installation USB drive, which was a very straightforward process and installed High Sierra without any problems. If you have an 8GB+ flash drive you don't mind writing over, the app is available here: #6 I am having trouble getting guid partition on the usb drive. I clicked the disk and then Erase>OS X extended (journaled) but no scheme comes up. As I'd read elsewhere that GUID was default on OS X extended (journaled) I went ahead and erased. But now installer tells me the drive must have GUID partition. Partition in Disk Utility is grayed out, now what? #7 The app should do all of that for you. I didn't have to do any formatting on my flash drive. Are you using Disk Creator? #8 One thing to be careful about when using "Install Disk Creator".It WILL create the bootable USB flashdrive, as intended. However, the time I tried using it, after creating the flashdrive, it then DELETED my OS Installer from the applications folder. Not sure why.So... IF you choose to use IDC, be sure to MAKE A COPY of the OS installer app somewhere else before you run it. Otherwise, you may have to download the full installer again, if you want another copy."Boot Buddy" DID NOT delete the installer app when it was done... #9 The app should do all of that for you. I didn't have to do any formatting on my flash drive. Are you using Disk Creator? No, I did not download disk creator because when I checked macdaddy.io on Norton Safe web it is untested — the same result for diskmakerx and sqwarq.com for boot buddy. #10 Your choice but I'm pretty sure it's kosher. Recommended by a lot of people. Bmju macrumors 6502a #11 There is another approach working only from the officially downloaded small installer here and here. But in case you're looking at it, AFACIT it doesn't really work as advertised... especially if you have to do the second version - with the extra fixup step during install - then you don't really have fully stand-alone install media, and you might as well have just installed directly from the 'small' installer to the new partition, which you could always do anyway. No need for an optical drive.Your netbook does not come with an optical drive but you can still reformat it using a usb flash drive.I’ve reformatted a lot of desktop computers, laptops and netbooks since I learned how to reformat using a USB flash drive only. Normally, you need an installation CD or DVD to reformat a computer. But here, you’ll learn how to skip that requirement. You need the following to reformat using a USB flash drive:1. The laptop to be reformatted.2. A USB Flashdrive with at least 4GB capacity.3. A copy of Windows 7 or other operating system. You can have a copy of Windows 7 from this direct link to their server. Steps in Reformatting Your NetbookNote: Make sure you have reformatted your flashdrive first and set its format to NTFS for this to work.1. Download Unetbootin. Install it then run it.2. Choose Disk Image then browse to the location of the Windows iso file you have just downloaded. Hit OK and wait for the process to finish. This will take about an hour to complete.3. You now have a bootable flashdrive that you can use to reformat any computer.4. Boot up the netbook that you have to reformat. Hit Delete or F2 before it starts to go to the BIOS.5. Go to the Boot section of the BIOS and make sure USB HDD is the first option in the boot priority.6. Save the settings and reboot.7. Now, the netbook will boot up from the USB HDD or your flashdrive. AC power adapter and, in the case of a laptop, remove the battery as well. 5.) Insert the USB flashdrive into one of the USB ports on the computer. In most cases, the particular USB port that you use will not matter. That being said, some computers are finicky and will only accept a specific USB port for recovery. 6.) With all power sources disconnected from the computer, hold down the ‘Windows’ key and the ‘B’ key. Do not release these keys until instructed to do so. 7.) Connect the AC power adapter to the computer. 8.) Press the ‘Power’ button on the computer. 9.) When the LED’s illuminate, you may release the two keys from step #6. You may notice some of the LED’s illuminating differently from how they do in normal computer operation. 10.) After about 10 seconds, the computer should start reading the flashdrive. While searching for the file system, the computer may (should) beep for one second. The number of beeps can vary based on the capacity of the flashdrive as well as the number of files on it. If the BIOS file is not found, the computer will reboot and try again. 11.) If the file is found, the computer will load it. The particular computer used in this tutorial took 12 seconds to load the BIOS file, but times can vary based on the size of the BIOS image. No beeps will be heard during this process. 12.) After the computer is finished loading the BIOS file, it will start flashing the BIOS. During this process, the computer will beep every 2 seconds. The computer used in this tutorial took about 32 seconds. About 5 seconds after the flashing process has finished, the computer will shutdown. If the recovery process was successful, then the BIOS should work normally the next time you boot up the computer. *NOTE: Not all devices will produce beeping sounds during the recovery process. The USB flashdrive LED should still blink on and off while the computer is loading the BIOS image. If the loading process is successful, the computer should shutdown within the next minute. For larger BIOS images, this may take longer. Was this reply helpful? Yes No Be alert for scammers posting fake support phone numbers and/or email addresses on the community. GPT will at least creates 4 partitions.windows 8 would still prompt you for cdkey, simply ignore it for the moment.now download and run pkuibx.exe and make sure select MSDM KEY, this will read the OEM win8 cdkey from UEFI bios, write down the cdkey.then activate with the cdkey you have.profit.complete steps : ... iso-2.htmlSep 25th, 2014 7:59 am#16audit13Deal Expert Feb 24, 2003 24208 posts 13113 upvotes Toronto Sep 25th, 2014 7:59 amGlad you got it to work.I also removed the mechanical drive and installed an SSD. I then booted the laptop from the USB drive, created the partitions using MBR, restarted the installation process, and installed Win8. I did not run into the UEFI issue with the Asus laptop
